The first issue of The Meridian arrived on September 24, 1964. The paper would go on to report on the college's transition from Hunter to Lehman, on demonstrations against the Vietnam War in the sixties, a student takeover of the campus in the seventies, and the expansion of the college throughout the eighties and nineties. Together with the Special Collections Division of the Leonard Lief Library, The Meridian is seeking to preserve its fragile archives. The wondering and waiting is over: Mendhenhall will be opened to students this fall.
Mendenhall Student Center was set to close this summer in preparation for a two-year renovation in which the interior would be reworked and brought up to code. This would also include a face-lift of the exterior to match other buildings surrounding it.
